Sunset Pointe landscape Upgrade Vote Passed!
By a vote of almost 2-1 the residents of Sunset Pointe, and the adjacent businesses along The Old Road, approved an increase in the annual assessment for the maintenance of the surrounding hillsides, that are part of the easements maintained by the Landscape and Lighting District 21, under the jurisdiction of the Special Districts of the LA County Department of Parks and Recreation. The increase will change from $550 to $750 per year per dwelling unit. Business would pay proportionately more based on the size of the parcel.
The assessment, which had never been increased since the tract was built in the mid 1980s, will increase for the 2008/2009 fiscal year [effective July 1st] and will appear on the tax bill this coming December. It paves the way for upgrading the irrigation system to a new state of the art moisture sensitive system, major trimming of the trees, and replanting of much of the area with aesthetically pleasing ground cover to enhance slope stability within this hillside community.
The passage of the increase in assessment also triggers the $681,000 promised by Supervisor Antonovich for rehabilitation of the irrigation system, for which the Resident's Landscape Committee is very appreciative, especially as California is facing "drought times". The Committee appreciates the County staff's tremendous cooperation and will continue to work closely with the County staff to insure that the Sunset Pointe Community concerns are well represented as the LLAD 21 moves forward with improvement of the landscape for the community .

SUNSET POINTE LANDSCAPE DISTRICT UPDATE
SUNSET POINTE LANDSCAPE DISTRICT UPDATE
The volunteers, who live in Sunset Pointe and comprise the Sunset Pointe Landscape Advisory Committee, have been working with the County staff for over 12 months to develop the best approach to address the continuing maintenance needs of our community “open spaces,” maintained by the Landscape District.
After 2 public meetings [February and April] and lots of resident input, you will be asked to vote on increasing the current Landscape and Lighting Act District [LLAD] No. 2, Zone 21 annual assessment, for landscape maintenance, from $550 to $750 per year. The current assessment of $550 per year has never been increased since the original developer implemented the District in 1986. The Landscape Advisory Committee believes that this modest increase is the best and most cost effective proposal. This increase will provide for TREE TRIMMING, NEW GROUND COVER in sparse areas and IMPROVED LANDSCAPE. In addition to improving the level of maintenance a YES vote will more fairly distribute the maintenance costs between businesses and homes that are part of District 21. A YES vote will also make available $681,000 from the County for an upgrade of the irrigation system to a more reliable and water efficient system. This should reduce water usage and costs in the future. If the ballot measure fails, landscape will deteriorate and no irrigation upgrade will be available.
The Landscape Advisory Committee recommends a YES vote.
