SUNSET POINTE LANDSCAPE DISTRICT UPDATE

SUNSET POINTE LANDSCAPE DISTRICT UPDATE

The volunteers, who live in Sunset Pointe and comprise the Sunset Pointe Landscape Advisory Committee, have been working with the County staff for over 12 months to develop the best approach to address the continuing maintenance needs of our community “open spaces,” maintained by the Landscape District.

After 2 public meetings [February and April] and lots of resident input, you will be asked to vote on increasing the current Landscape and Lighting Act District [LLAD] No. 2, Zone 21 annual assessment, for landscape maintenance, from $550 to $750 per year. The current assessment of $550 per year has never been increased since the original developer implemented the District in 1986. The Landscape Advisory Committee believes that this modest increase is the best and most cost effective proposal. This increase will provide for TREE TRIMMING, NEW GROUND COVER in sparse areas and IMPROVED LANDSCAPE. In addition to improving the level of maintenance a YES vote will more fairly distribute the maintenance costs between businesses and homes that are part of District 21. A YES vote will also make available $681,000 from the County for an upgrade of the irrigation system to a more reliable and water efficient system. This should reduce water usage and costs in the future. If the ballot measure fails, landscape will deteriorate and no irrigation upgrade will be available.

The Landscape Advisory Committee recommends a YES vote.
